This is Tim Garland. I recently retired from the USAF out of Maxwell AFB Gunter Annex as a CMSgt. As most of you know, I had a bout with cancer and was medically retired from July 1984 until the end of Dec 1986 after two years of active service from Jun 1982 - Jul 1984. I returned to active duty and again was stationed at Maxwell AFB. Since then my career did a 360 and I ended up back at Maxwell AFB where I subsequently retired effective 1 Oct 2009. I'm currently in the civil service employee.

I have kept in touch with many of my former Maxwell AFB cop friends.

CMSgt John G. Boyles is an instructor at the USAF SNCO Academy.

Norwood A. (Andy) Miller is a cop with the Central North Carolina State University in Durham, NC. Also, he retired from the Durham PD in 2009.

Fred B. Keith (MSgt ret) lives in Union Grove, AL where he works at the Red Stone Arsenal as a DoD Police Office/Investigator.

Mike Doty (MSgt ret) works for the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Montgomery, AL.

Steve Donohue (MSgt ret) works at the Federal Prison Camp on Maxwell AFB as an education counselor.

Tom Bell (MSgt ret) also works at the Federal Prison Camp on Maxwell AFB.

  5. Tim,

I remember you as a bright young man, not long out of tech school, working in Pass and ID.

I remember when you got sick, and later heard that it was cancer. What an amazing story -- that you recovered, returned to active duty, and are now in a second career.

By the way, I just got off the phone with Phil Stallard about a half-hour ago. (We've kept in touch ever since I left Maxwell at the end of May, 1985.) He got a postcard in the mail from JP recently, and is looking forward to a reunion.

  7. Also, per my post on another page, here is what I remember about Jimmy Hale.

    James I. Hale

His hometown was a small town in eastern Alabama -- possibly Sycamore, or Sylacauga.

He married a SSgt that worked in finance, right about the time that he made TSgt.

He taught me how to be a "catcher", and I helped him retrain K-9 Boulder after another handler left the SP field. I used to catch Boulder when we trained for Peacekeeper Challenge. Then, I began catching for a Montgomery PD officer that had a side business training dogs for family protection. (One family had a huge RED Doberman that almost took out my throat.)

I've tried to look up Jimmy via the Internet several times, with no success. If anyone else contacts him, please tell him that I said hello.
